Welcome to the website of the Dorog based Benedek Endre Speleology and Nature Protection Society(BEBTE). Let us inform you briefly about our Association, our fields of activity and about our contact details.
Our headquarter is in the City of Dorog. The city is located in the northern part of Hungary, lying between the Pilis and Gerecse Mountains, approximately 40 km from Budapest and 8 km from Esztergom, which borders Slovakia. The City of Dorog has been built on coal-mining and the related industries for more than 200 years. However, nowadays multinational companies rather than mining are shaping the city, which has approximately 15 000 inhabitants.
Our Association is mainly active in the region bordered by Dorog, Esztergom and Úny.
BEBTE is managing the world-wide known Cave of Sátorköpuszta, which is the prototype of thermo-hydrological cave formation and the only touristic cave in Komárom-Esztergom County. Minerals like gypsum (CaSO4), calcite (CaCO3) and aragonite (CaCO3), and cauldron-like formations created by the hot water make the cave special. Anyone, who is interested, can visit the cave with a guide from our Association - all you have to do is to make an appointment.
BEBTE is active not only in cave-management but also in the field of nature conservation. The Association carries out conservation activity both in the Danube-Ipoly National Park that stretches up to the City of Dorog and Palatinus Lake that can be found at the edge of the city. In the case of the latter, the Association informs citizens continuously about the water-quality of the lake, which is appropriate for swimming, angling and water-sports. In addition, we regularly organise cleaning actions and we promote the protection of the lake in our leaflets, posters and other information materials.
BEBTE is familiar with writing publications and making documentaries. The Association has journalist members, who regularly publish articles about environmental protection and nature conservation. The more than 100 members of our Association are divided into 5 divisions. The division working in the municipality of Úny has a great number of members and they manage a non-profit telecommunication centre (Teleház).
In every year, BEBTE organises a number of trips and expeditions both domestic and international. Those are mainly professional ones aiming to provide useful information and experience to the fans of geography, geology, zoology and botany. However, the sport characteristics of the journeys are not negligible either. In the last few years we visited Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Italy, Bulgaria and Greece a couple of times. Our most popular programmes are the mountain camps in Transsylvania and the volcano-expeditions to South Italy.
We would be happy to provide you with more information about our Association. Should you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org!
